Community celebrates first steps towards Arran’s new marine discovery centre

COAST opened the doors of the Old Pavilion in Lamlash last Friday to celebrate its new ownership with the community. Representatives from Visit Arran, Arran High School and the Outdoor Education Centre as well as many businesses, community groups and residents had a chance to visit the building and discuss future plans for the Marine Discovery Centre.

Volunteers have already started renovation works on the pavilion which will become the new headquarters of Arran’s Marine Protected Area. This building will provide an office space for COAST and a hub for marine activities and education until the new building for the Marine Discovery Centre is completed by 2020.

COAST Director Andrew Binnie said “Its great to have community involvement. We need volunteers to help with building and painting work, the maintenance of two of the tennis courts and with our engagement and fundraising activities”. For more information contact
